Saint Jean de Deido Orphanage

The Archdiocese of Douala is doing its part to support some of the most unfortunate victims of this crisis: children who have been orphaned by loss of both parents to AIDS. Many children arrive at the orphanage having been found on the streets and in garbage bins, abandoned by terminally-ill parents and families that are unable to care for them. The Archdiocese supports AIDS orphans through Saint Jean de Deido Orphanage, which houses over 40 orphans and provides financial support to more than 50 families taking care of children who have lost their parents.
Since 2003, St. Jean de Deido has sought to bring love, dignity, and hope for
a bright future to scores of children who have arrived at the orphanage from
all parts of Cameroon. The orphanage specifically seeks to bring in children
(between 1 day and 7 years old) and care for them until they can be placed with
loving foster families.
In their mission to "defend life," the sisters at Saint Jean de Deido and their staff of 10 have relied upon the charity of organizations and individuals in Douala abroad to provide basic necessities for an ever increasing number of orphaned children. Despite the generosity of these organizations, the orphanage struggles to operate with a grossly underfunded budget. Your support is needed so that Saint Jean de Deido can provide adequate care for the growing number of children under its care.
Expenses
The needs of this orphanage are simple, but many. The orphanage needs financial
assistance to provide adequate salaries for staff, transportation, building maintenance,
and for the construction of a separate dormitory for their growing contingency
of older orphans (i.e. 12 years and older).
